The Black band cory is a peaceful bottom dweller that prefers smooth sand or rounded gravel for substrate. They are foraging omnivores and will accept most sinking dry foods as well as bloodworm. They should be kept in groups of 4-6 individuals due to their schooling nature. Adults generally reach 2.5 inches in length and should be kept in 20 gallon aquariums or higher. They will peacefully coexist with most community tank dwellers including guppies, mollies, platy fish, tetras, angels, danios, and gouramis.
